Precious Metals and Materials

We only work with the finest components when creating our jewellery, including our metals which are only ever Sterling Silver, 14k Gold Filled or Gold Vermeil and of course, our beautiful semi-precious gemstones, including freshwater pearls.  Below is further information on

Sterling Silver

Sterling silver is a high-quality silver alloy that is commonly used in jewellery, cutlery, and various decorative items. By definition, sterling silver consists of 92.5% silver and 7.5% of other metals, typically copper. The addition of copper enhances the durability and strength of the silver, which is relatively soft and malleable in its pure form.
The standard for sterling silver is often denoted by the number “925,” which indicates the percentage of silver in the alloy (925 parts per thousand). This composition allows sterling silver to maintain a bright, shiny appearance while also being more resistant to scratching and deformation compared to pure silver.
Sterling silver can tarnish over time due to exposure to air and moisture, but it can be easily cleaned and polished to restore its lustre.

Gold Filled

14k gold filled refers to a type of jewellery material that consists of a base metal (usually brass) that is bonded with a layer of 14k gold. The term “gold filled” means that the gold layer is mechanically bonded to the base metal, rather than simply being plated with gold, which is usually thinner and less durable.<

In terms of composition, 14k gold filled material contains 14 parts gold and 10 parts other metals, making it 58.3% pure gold (since 14k gold is 58.3% gold compared to 24k pure gold). The gold layer in gold-filled jewellery is significantly thicker than in gold-plated items, typically making it more durable and resistant to tarnishing and wear.

The gold layer on gold-filled items is typically at least 1/20th (5%) of the item’s total weight, which is substantially thicker than standard gold plating. This thickness allows gold-filled items to maintain their appearance over time, provided they are cared for properly. Gold filled jewellery is a popular option for those who want the look of gold without the high price of solid gold.

Gemstones

Gemstones are naturally occurring minerals or rocks that are cut, polished and used in jewellery making.  They are valued for their beauty, rarity and durability.  Each have their own unique properties, colours and meanings which is what makes our gemstone jewellery a popular choice.

Freshwater Pearls

Freshwater pearls are a type of pearl that is formed in freshwater molluscs, primarily mussels, rather than in saltwater oysters.  These pearls are highly valued in the jewellery industry for their beauty, variety and affordability.  Their natural formation process make them a popular choice and they continue to be a bestseller in our jewellery collection, oozing elegance and modernity in abundance.
