Choosing the right metal for your jewellery can enhance your natural beauty and complement your skin tone. Here’s a guide to help you find the metal that will make you shine!
Choosing the right jewellery for you can often be quite a confusing experience. Jewellery should be an extension of your personal style and identity, and the right pieces of jewellery will add something extra to any outfit, as well as helping to boost your confidence and self-esteem. It adds that finishing touch to every outfit but with such a wide variety of options available when it comes to jewellery, how can you know which pieces are right for you? The same piece of jewellery can look completely different when worn by two different people. Colours and styles that look good on one person may not look as good on another.
One of the best areas to focus on when trying to decide what jewellery will look best on you is your skin tone. Obviously, your decision will all come down to personal preference and taste, but by figuring out what your skin tone is, you are providing yourself with a great starting point in your search for the perfect jewellery. There are three different undertones – cool, neutral, and warm. Each skin tone has different qualities and colouring to them.
Cool Undertones
Cool undertones will vary from pink and blue to purple and red. If you have a lighter skin tone, it will  be more towards a shade of pinkish-blue. If your skin tone is darker, it will resemble more of a  purplish-red. If you have fair skin with cool undertones, metals like sterling silver will beautifully  complement your complexion. Their cool, silvery tones will add a touch of elegance to your look  without overpowering your fair skin.
Warm Undertones
Warm undertones will vary from yellow to golden. If you have a lighter skin tone, it will be more towards a shade of yellow. If your skin tone is darker, it will resemble more of a peach or golden colour. For those with a medium skin tone, you have the flexibility to experiment with a variety of metals. Yellow gold, rose gold, and even silver can all look stunning against your warm complexion. Consider your personal style and the colours you wear most often to determine which metal suits you best.
Neutral Undertones
Neutral undertones are a mixture of warm and cool undertones. This is usually an olive-coloured  tone which also means that your undertone is like the color of your skin tone. If you have a dark skin  tone, you can rock bold and vibrant metals that will make a statement. Gold and rose gold are  particularly flattering against your warm undertones, adding a luxurious touch to your overall look.  Do not be afraid to mix and match different metals to create a unique and eye-catching style.
Tips for Checking Your Skin Tone
If you do not know your skin tone or are looking to find out, below is two ways in which you can find out. Once you know your skin tone, you can start matching your sterling silver or gold filled jewellery to it!
The Color of Clothing
To check your skin tone, simply wear a white t-shirt and look at your complexion. If you start to see your skin turn a pink color, then you have a cool tone. If the white shirt makes your skin look a yellow color, then you have a warm tone. If there is no change, then the tone is neutral.
You can also look at which colour of clothing compliments you the best. If you find yourself looking best in yellows or orange mixed with red, brown, or ivory, your undertone is warm. If purple, blue, red, and black are your go-to colours, your undertone is cool.
The Colour of your Veins
Checking the colour of your veins is a quick and easy way to get a full understanding of your skin tone. When you flip your wrist over, look at your veins. The colour will tell you everything you need to know about your skin tone. If you see more green, then you have more of a warm tone. If you see more blue, than you have more of a cool tone. If there is an equal amount of each colour, this is an indicator that you have a neutral skin tone.
Remember, these are just general guidelines, and the most important thing is to wear what makes you feel confident and beautiful. Feel free to experiment with different metals and see which ones resonate with your personal style and preferences.
